Community Pubs Month April 2012
What is Community Pubs Month?
Community Pubs Month is a national initiative organised by CAMRA to champion the importance of local pubs. CAMRA has been campaigning for over 40 years to support pubs in the wake of rising costs, underinvestment, threat of demolition, property developers and more, and with 16 pubs closing on a weekly basis, the future of the great British pub is at stake.
Why is Community Pubs Month taking place?
Community Pubs Month is taking place to help increase footfall in local pubs, to increase the awareness of pubs as invaluable community assets, and encourage licensees to organise and promote events to attract further trade. It's all about giving community pubs as much publicity as possible during these tough times.
Who can take part in Community Pubs Month?
Anyone can take part in Community Pubs Month, with both licensees and CAMRA's 200+ local branches spreading the message through publicity and promotional material geared at raising the profile of the Month. On Monday April 2nd, Community Pubs Day will kick off the start of the Month, and is the perfect opportunity for pub owners and punters alike to raise a glass and get the Month off to a flying start!
What can I do to get involved in Community Pubs Month?
As a licensee or pub manager, it couldn't be easier to take part in Community Pubs Month and get involved in the fun-filled festivities of the Month. As inspiration, a few ideas for toasting the Month include- Food and beer matching evenings - design a three course meal, and show punters that a quality bitter or stout trumps a merlot or sauvignon blanc any day! Meet the Brewer session - CAMRA research shows more drinkers than ever are taking an interest in their local brewer. Why not invite him/her to your pub to de-mystify the art of brewing? Local club competitions -pubs have been the hotbed for local games and sports teams for centuries, and whether it be a darts or shove ha'penny showdown, nothing better symbolises the social importance of the pub as a meeting place.
