The following represent updates to CAMRA's WhatPub database took place between 15 September and 11 November 2020

BEXLEY

NEW MICROPUB BEXLEY, NEXT DOOR, 3 Mill Row, DA5 1LA. Located within one of the railway arches, this establishment opened in September 2020, serving 5 local real ales direct by gravity from cask and by handpump. Also bottled beers, gin, other spirits, prosecco, tea and coffee. It's very much in the style of a micropub, though it doesn't promote itself as such. NHS QR code and temperature check on entry. 10% discount on real ale to card-carrying CAMRA members. Was OMG and CAFE TRAX.

NEW MICROPUB WELLING, HANGAR , 35 Bellegrove Road, DA16 3PB. This is the sister micropub to the one of the same name at the Oval in Sidcup, and was formally opened by the Mayor of Bexley on 26th Oct 2020. The decor is dark with traditional bench seating arranged in booths, plus a low seating area at the rear. There is currently no outside seating. Gins and cocktails are promoted, with a variety of wines also available. During the Covid restrictions reservations are recommended at busy times via their website. Track-and-trace is by both paper and app. Payment is by card or cash. Strictly over 21 at all times. Four Changing real ales on graviy from the likes of Mad Squirrel, No Frills and Twisted Oak. Real cider is also available.

E1, ARTICHOKE, 91 Stepney Way, E1 3BG. Closed and gutted 2001. Still vacant October 2020. Planning permission granted in 2015 to demolish and redevelop site.

E1, DEAN SWIFT (Wellington), 2 Deancross Street, E1 2QA. Closed. Planning permission to redevelop site retaining pub was refused March 2020. Sept 2020 - building site.

E1, MECHANIC BREWING COMPANY TAPROOM, Arch 22a, Cudworth Street, E1 5QU. Brewery closed 3 November - looking to relocate in 2021.

E1, MOMENTO LOUNGE BAR, 23-24 Shoreditch High Street, E1 6PG. Renamed EDGE.

E4, MO-BO'S, 160 Station Road, E4 6AN. Now Japanese restaurant

E4, WINE FACTOR , 75 Station Road, E4 7BU. Wine bar with craft beer in back of off licence.

E10, GRAVITY WELL TAPROOM, Arch 142, Tilbury Road, E10 6RE. Closed. Brewery taproom relocated in another railway arch (see openings above).

E10, GRAVITY WELL TAPROOM , Arch 155 Midland Road., E10 6JT. New taproom of Gravity Well brewery. Aims to cover a broad range of the craft beer spectrum whilst maintaining the focus on their signature hazy, juicy pales and IPAs. Food can be ordered from Spicebox, a local Vegan Indian restauarnt.

E14, TOMMY FLOWERS PUB , 50 Aberfeldy Street, E14 0NU. Community owned pub opened in the Summer of 2018 named after Tommy Flowers (1905-1998) was born a short walk away at 160 Abbott Road, Poplar. He first worked as an engineer with the British Post Office, then went on to design Colossus “the world’s first programmable electronic computer.” The building operates as a community space on Mon-Wed. Beer is Guiness/Carlsberg.

E14, QUEENS HEAD, 8 Flamborough Street, E14 7LS. Freehold for sale via Tarn & Tarn Oct 2020.

E15, BRITANNIA, 2 Plaistow Grove, E15 3ER. Closed November 2019 due to idenified structural problems. Planning permission refused July 2020 to demolish pub & develop the site retaining a pub.

HOUNSLOW, HUSSAR), 495-497 Staines Road, TW4 5AR. Freeholder QUALITY BEVERAGES LIMITED sold on to OPPORTUNITY PROPERTIES LTD Aug 2020.

TEDDINGTON, CLOCK HOUSE (Ei Group), 69 High Street, TW11 8HA. The pub reopened and under new management in October. Speaking to the new publican at the time he said “The pub is in the process of redecorating and will also be changing its name in the new year. The aim is for the pub to be family and dog friendly community pub, with both Sky and BT Sports. The kitchen is expected to be open by mid-October and will include stone baked pizza and traditional English pub food with a twist.”

SOUTH EAST LONDON

CHADWELL HEATH, WHITE HORSE (M&B), 118 High Road, RM6 6NU. Already reported closed in Aug 2017 - planning permission for change of use granted on Sept 16th 2019 for three blocks of flats on the pub's car park, garden & in part of the pub, but retaining the front of the pub. The pub suffered major fire damage on 20th September 2020.

SOUTH WEST LONDON

SW8, QUEENS ARMS, 139 St Philip Street, SW8 3SS. A wedge-shaped corner pub, reopened in September 2020 after three years of closure. Sharp's Doom Bar on handpump.

SW15, GREEN MAN (Young's), Putney Heath, SW15 3NG. Reopened following Young's sensitive refurbishment of this country-house style pub on the edge of the heath.

SW18, BLOODY BENS, 422 Garratt Lane, SW18 4HW. Renamed CICCHINA & WINE - a wine bar with no draught beer.

WEST LONDON

SW1, LORD MOON OF THE MALL (Wetherspoon), 18 Whitehall, SW1A 2DY. Temporarily reopened by freeholder McMullens rather cheekly as SPOONS UNDER THE WATER. The pop-up pub whilst building work is completed sells no real ale but 3 keg beers from McMullen’s Riverview brewery:- SIPA, Pilsner + IPA. In addition Guinness + Birra Morretti were also also available. Cash accepted. Bring your own food.

SW3, SURPRISE (Young/Geronimo), 6 Christchurch Terrace, SW3 4AJ. Closed since September - lease on the market via DCL.

SW6, PILANGO CIDER (--other--Pilango Cider), Railway Arch 10, Munster Road, SW6 4RY. Sadly now closed.

W1, BARLEY MOW (Greene King), 82 Duke Street, W1K 6JF. Closed for building work No longer operated by Greene King.

W6, CRAFT BEER CO. (Craft Beer Co), 17-18 Broadway Shopping Centre, W6 9YD. As at October 2020 this site was reported to be no longer selling real ale. It is understood that real ale will resume post-Covid when footfall in the local area has returned to normal.

W6, OLD SUFFOLK PUNCH (Maverick Pubs), 80 Fulham Palace Road, W6 9PL. Closed since March and for sale for even longer. Site reported Oct 2020 sold subject to contract.

W6, ROOK'S NEST (Laine Pub Company), 73 Dalling Road, W6 0JD. Renamed PRINCE OF WALES TOWNHOUSE following refurbishment and reopening and now connected to Big Smoke Brewery. The venue has up to seven real ales available (several from Big Smoke as well as local breweries such as Park) plus 20+ keg beers and 3 ciders. The chain has a buy 9 pints, get the 10th free loyalty card scheme.

W9, HERO OF MAIDA (Harcourt Inns), 55 Shirland Road, W9 2JD. No longer Cask Marque accredited.

W11, DUKE OF WELLINGTON (Young's), 179 Portobello Road, W11 2ED. Closed for refurb.

W12, QUEEN ADELAIDE (Metropolitan (Greene King)), 412 Uxbridge Road, W12 0NR. Closed - not going to reopen under Greene King management.

WC2, CHESHIRE CHEESE (Shepherd Neame), 5 Little Essex Street, WC2R 3LD. The pub has not reopened and as at Sept 2020 the lease of this site was on offer via AG&G.

WC2, FREEMASONS ARMS (Shepherd Neame), 81-82 Long Acre, WC2E 9NG. No longer Cask Marque accredited - Sheps have pulled out of scheme.

WEST MIDDLESEX

W3, BELVEDERE (Stonegate), 106 High Street, W3 6QX. Closed October 2020 - future uncertain although signage indicates it will reopen.

W13, CASTLEBAR (Ei Group), 84 Uxbridge Road, W13 8RA. Refurbished in 2020 removing handpump.

W13, STAR & ANCHOR (Star (Heineken UK)), 94 Uxbridge Road, W13 8RA. Renamed STAR & SCORPION following major refurbishment and refocussing under the management of the Persian Palance opposite. St Austell Proper Job was available on reopening.

SOUTHALL, SOUTHALL CONSERVATIVE & UNIONIST CLUB (ACC), Fairlawn, High St, UB1 3HB. Closed and for sale.

WEMBLEY, WHITE HORSE (Fuller's), 4 Wembley Park Boulevard, HA9 0HP. New bar on the ground and mezzanine level of residential development opposite the Wembley Arena When opened on 2 October 2020 real ale was unavailable “due to technical problems.”
