Local Authority Planning Enforcement
This page is for examples of where the local London planning authorities failed to take enforcement.
CROYDON
- Just before Christmas 2021, Ye Olde Clocktower, Whitehorse Road was demolished without planning permission. Despite several complaints to the council, no action was taken.
- In 2024, two suspicious fires happened almost simultaneously at the Windmill, St James Road, and the Drum & Monkey, Gloucester Road (both pubs are a few minutes' walk apart). A cursory investigation was undertaken by the Fire Service but no further action has been taken.
- In 2024, the Broad Green Tavern, London Road was converted into a shop without planning permission. Again, despite complaints, no enforcement action has been taken.
SUTTON
Not aware of any planning enforcement failures, but their planning department has a poor attitude to pub protection, e.g. nodding through planning approvals for change of use for the Grapes (198 High Street) and the Cock & Bull (26-30 High Street).
